There has been much debate on the destruction of Syrian cultural heritage, especially in Aleppo, in numerous international conferences in the last couple of years. Now is the time to act. With the upcoming workshop in Beirut we would like to discuss and prepare different approaches and task schedules for the return to peace.
The conference held on the 22nd of April 2016 in the DAZ Berlin aimed to combine all initiatives and activities, including those of UNESCO, and to get prepared for the zero hour, the moment when the war is finally over. The participants agreed on their joint objective: the Old City of Aleppo shall – supported by the citizens of Aleppo and the urban policy – become once again a vibrant and vital community, in which the returned inhabitants will find themselves in an open dialogue in which the architectural diversity and the traditional mix of uses have their places as well as the gradually restored historical and cultural heritage.
Über die Autorin / über den Autor:Mamoun Fansa wurde 1946 in Aleppo, Syrien geboren. 1967 erfolgte die Umsiedlung nach Deutschland. Fansa studierte von 1968 bis 1972 Kunst an der Fachhochschule für Kunst und Design in Hannover sowie von 1972-1979 Nordeuropäische Archäologie an den Universtiäten Hannover und Göttingen. In den Jahren 1978 bis 1987 war er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Denkmalpflege in Hannover beschäftigt, worauf er im Anschluss bis 1994 Abteilungsleiter am Staatlichen Naturkundemuseum für Naturkund und Vorgeschichte (jetzt Landesmuseum Natur und Mensch) in Oldenburg war, in dem er von 1994 bis 2011 als leitender Museumsdirektor tätig gewesen ist. 2000 initiierte Fansa die Ausstellung "Damaskus – Aleppo. 5000 Jahre Stadtentwicklung". Seit 2011 wohnt Mamoun Fansa in Berlin und ist Vorsitzender des Fördererkreises Museumsdorf Düppel, Berlin/Zehlendorf.
