Der Band versammelt verschiedene Arten von Texten, die der Friedens- und Menschenrechtsaktivist Alaa Abd el-Fattah seit Beginn des arabischen Frühlings im Jahr 2011 bis 2021 veröffentlicht hat. Veröffentlicht wurden sie als Zeitungsartikel, Facebook-Posts, Tweets oder auch aus dem Gefängnis herausgeschmuggelten Notizen. Denn seit 2013 ist Alaa Abd el-Fattah mit Unterbrüchen inhaftiert.

In seinen Texten, seinen Analysen thematisiert er die Notwendigkeit der Revolution, die Notwendigkeit für gesellschaftlichen Wandel in Ägypten, für die Notwendigkeit, die globalen Herausforderungen anzugehen. Seine Analysen sind sehr präzise und überzeugend. Sie machen die Enttäuschung und Ernüchterung nach dem Scheitern der Revolution bei einer breiten Schicht von Aktivist:innen in Ägypten deutlich und sehr nachvollziehbar.

Mit der Zeit richtet sich der Schwerpunkt der Schriften von Abd el-Fattah auf seine Inhaftierung, darauf, was der Gefängnisvollzug in Ägypten mit den Gefangenen, aber auch mit deren Angehörigen jetzt und in Zukunft macht. Nachdem der Autor seit September 2019 in Sicherheitsverwahrung ist, ohne das Recht auf Zeitungen, Bücher, Schreiben, Besuche, körperliche Betätigung ist das Nachdenken darüber, was mit einem Menschen, dem Körper eines Menschen, unter solchen Bedingungen geschieht, das zentrale Thema.

Alaa Abd el-Fattah is an Egyptian writer, technologist and political activist.
